At the crime scene. Lying in the car is the body of the late, Brenda Nantongo Wamala, the daughter to Hon. Gen. Katumba Wamala. RIP

~ By Johnious Tumusiime, Patriot in Uganda

It is very unfortunate that merciless devil agents continue to target extra-important national heroes like Gen. Katumba Wamala that they may succeed in their unknown evil missions. It is a sign of lack of patriotism, caused by the envy, jealous and greed which can be briefed as sin. The government and all patriotic Ugandans must work hard to convert the whole nation into true and faithful patriotic citizens.

I disagree with the common belief that the cause of such killings and/or attempts to kill important persons is politics. It is the jealous, envy and greed that is triggered by lack of patriotism, Godlessness, cowardice and ignorance in an individual that that arouses their desire to see another suffering. Killing cannot be political even if it may be committed by a politician. Politics means competition for a position but not who will die first or who will cause the other's death. It is a battle for the brain that must be fought using words and good presentation or representation but not killing. Killing is not a political game! It is a game for the unGodly, non patriotic, and ignorant stupid coward individuals.

I wish therefore to add my voice to those of my fellow compatriots to grieve the lost blood and also pray for God's comfort and special security to Gen. Katumba Wamala and your family, and the family of Haruna Kayondo, and to the whole nation.

To Gen. Katumba Wamala: May you keep strong and may you understand that God has made you survive for a reason. Keep devoted to serving your country patriotically as before and do not allow the enemy to defeat your ability. Keep alert, knowing that your enemy is angrier and may take plan B but still keep focused, living and doing as The Lord guides you.

Gen. Katumba Wamala at the scene after survival of the assassination

To The President: Gen. Katumba Wamala has survived the teeth of the crocodile but many specially important fellows did not. It is very unfortunate for the lost. My prayer is that you may use the chance of the survivor to trace and track your ghost enemy and his routes.

To The Nation: I hardly can believe that it is God's decision that innocent souls depart through assassinations. However, I know that God is fair and faithful. He will reward each one the way they deserve. Everyone should stay calm but careful, prayerful, encouraging one another and being patriotic and Godly all the time. Do not lose the hope that we shall soon reach Canaan.

MAY THE SOULS OF THE DECEASED REST IN ETERNAL PEACE

FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY

SOME PEOPLE ARE “BAYAAYE” BECAUSE IT IS THEIR LAST OPTION

Article by Johnious Tumusiime

Have you ever wondered why many youth in developing countries are “bayaaye”?! You might have ever, or maybe, you think it is the kind of life they prefer, or you think it is not your business to think about bayaaye and their life. I am one of those people that rarely take for granted anything affecting my countrymate, even though such thing may not be directly affecting me personally.

Let me in the first place give you the meaning of “bayaaye”! Bayaaye is a common term in Ugandan languages that is used to refer to “rogue people”. Bayaaye (rogue people) or Abayaaye (rogue people) is plural and its singular is Muyaaye (rogue) or Omuyaaye (a rogue) respectively. According to online dictionaries, a rogue (omuyaaye) is a mean, mischievous, bad, evil, or unprincipled person, who is often liked by people not minding his or her bad character. However, the same word, muyaaye is also commonly used to refer to refer to “hooligan” or “bad guy”. The lifestyle of omuyaaye or abayaaye is commonly referred to as kiyaaye lifestyle or buyaaye, while the acts of omuyaaye or abayaaye are commonly referred to as obuyaaye, or eby’ekiyaaye.

Uganda is one of the countries with many bayaaye, common everywhere, urban and rural but more in urban. Whereas, it is very bad, in the traditions of Uganda to be omuyaaye, and considered abnormal, many Ugandans are becoming bayaaye day and night.

I recently spent some time studying the life of bayaaye and came to understand the reason they choose to live such life. In fact, it is not anyone’s chice to be omuyaaye. The strongest reason people choose to lead the kiyaaye lifestyle is that they are poor, hopeless and worried!

Extreme poverty is the commonest characteristic among bayaaye. Well, there are some people who choose to live the kiyaaye lifestyle while they are not poor but they are the fewest, and, if well traced still, many of these start living this lifestyle while they are still young, poor and either hopeless or in hard struggles for hope, and end up getting addicted to this lifestyle.

One of the worst boosting agents of the kiyaaye lifestyle is discrimination. Discrimination, often being a result of the gap between the poor and the rich, or tribalism or religious beliefs causes hopelessness which in turn forces people, especially the youth to choose the kiyaaye lifestyle.

The other is poor upbringing of children by their family heads, which is also, on clear analysis, a result of poverty, discrimination, low education and hopelessness.

There is no way you can describe a muyaaye without the word “poverty”. Every muyaaye has, either in one’s background, history or present-day life the word “poverty”.

The government of Uganda has many times condemned obuyaaye, though the question remains, has the government done enough in preventing people from being abayaaye?

Keep following this site both on website and social media so you don’t miss the other articles coming to complement this one. In the following articles, we shall see how harmful it is to have many bayaaye in the country, why it is hard to fight obuyaaye, how best we can fight obuyaaye, how the bayaaye can be helped to overcome their challenges and become good citizens, etc.

MAKERERE UNIVERSITY'S ICONIC MAIN ADMINISTRATION BUILDING ON FIRE

BY: ATWIINE RHONET AND OCHOLA ISAAC

The signature of Makerere University has caught fire leaving invaluable property and records shut down.

According to Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the fire is believed to have started at midnight from the roof spreading to floors that house both records and finance departments. Fire and rescue services responded and managed to contain its spread, however, several offices were affected.

“The Police Fire Brigade is trying to put out the fire which has now covered almost half of the roof. It’s a trying moment for us,” the university tweeted.

On top of that, also offices of records, Finance, Vice Chancellor's, Audit Administration and the basement full of archive files spanking the whole University history are all destroyed.

According to the university, efforts to save the left-wing of the building which houses the Human Resources and staff records of the university were being defeated by the highly powerful flames whose blaze was increased by the wooden furnishings.

Julius Katerega, the institution's guild president says, " the face of Makerere University has been destroyed because those were one of the most important centers of our university".

However, Barnabus Nawangwe, the Makerere University Vice-Chancellor advice and promise all the student, staff, and the public that the ivory tower is to be restored as soon as possible.

" It is a very dark morning for Makerere University. Our iconic Main Administration Building caught fire and the destruction is unbelievable. But we are determined to restore the building to its historic state in the shortest time possible. " He tweeted.

Currently, the fire has come as Uganda is on wait for today's presidential speech on the COVID-19 situation. Parents and students are eagerly hoping to have education institutions open.

About the main building

According to Makerere University, the Main Administration Building was completed in 1941 under the leadership of George C. Turner, the Principal, Makerere College (1939-46).

Earlier in 1938, the duke of Gloucester, representing His Majesty King George VI had cut the first sod for the construction of the building on 3rd November.

The Main Building with its unique 20th-century British architecture is easily Makerere’s most recognizable symbol and was constructed with funds from the Colonial Development hours.

The building’s construction was greatly delayed by a scarcity of resources to purchase materials as Britain and her allies grappled with the expenses of World War II.

As a result, some of the carpentry work had to be done on-site at the Technical College.

The Principal then focused on turning Makerere into a University College and establishing buildings. As a result both the St. Francis and St. Augustine Chapels were completed in the same year 1941 and by 1944, plans for the establishment of a School of Civil Engineering at Makerere were already being discussed by the British House of Common.

'POLITICAL ACTIVITIES COULD BE OF GREATER RISK THAN PLACES OF WORSHIP WHEN IT COMES TO SPREAD OF COVID-19'

Editorial:

Great thanks to the government, health workers and fellow Ugandans for the struggles and sacrifices we are making in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic

However, I remain not convinced about the government's decision to let political activities go on the way they are doing but keep silent on the proposals to reopen places of worship and schools with safety guidelines.

I want to centre my argument today on the proposal to reopen places of worship because it looks already late with schools.

The Ministry of Health has always instructed us to keep a social distance, wash our hands and wear face masks while in public. However, there is no doubt that none of these was even thought about during campaigns for NRM Primaries. During the lineup elections of NRM that were held nationwide, water and soap were provided but their impact remains questionable given the condition in which they were used and trusted as the control measure to the spread of the virus. How does washing hands prevent me from picking Corona virus from the person I am lining behind or in front of with a close distance less than a foot and without any other protective instrument? At most polling stations (including mine), many people washed their hands but all squeezed in lines, just a few with masks on and none with covered hands. Should we say COVID-19 does not spread through political events? What difference is there, regarding spread of Corona virus, between gathering for worship and gathering for politics? Is it not gathering and congesting that aids spread of the virus? And in any case, which one is easier to control, campaign events or worship events? It is not justice at all, stopping people from meeting to discuss their Godliness and at the same time encouraging them to meet and discuss their politics. We must not forget the role of religious gatherings! Domestic violence is ruining the country, children are getting engaged in sexual acts, very young girls are getting married, child labour is becoming uncontrollable, families are breaking up, people are killing one another, land conflicts are increasing and this time with worse effects, assault is everywhere and several other immoral and inhuman deeds are rising and spreading everywhere! Ask why? People lack the counselling, spiritual guidance and inspiration they always got from their spiritual leaders. There are lots of things that cannot by any means go right unless people meet and discuss their Godliness.

Almost all religious leaders have on several occasions requested for reopening of places of worship and vowed to put into practice the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health regarding safe gathering during the COVID-19 Season.

Is it not much easier to limit the congregation size and their sitting organisation than doing the same for a political campaign gathering? I don't say we must forget about the virus and reopen churches and mosques but if the ongoing political activities in Uganda are considered healthy, then all places of worship should be reopened because they are far risk-free and requisite compared to the ongoing political events. We are a country of God and we cannot look down on Godly requirements while promoting the earthly ones. That is my submission. Thank you.

Opinion: 'Scientific Campaigns and Elections' is not the Right way to go for Uganda

"Let's focus on saving lives, not elections"

By Tumusiime Johnious, Director, Best Solutions Uganda

Regarding the prevailing arguments about the Scientific Campaigns and Elections Roadmap that was given by the Electoral Commission boss, Justice Simon Byabakama, early this week; I wish to add my voice and analysis of the matter.

Firstly, I wish to state that this system cannot at all produce leaders that are patriotic and concerned about their people - instead they will be much concerned about the media.

I was so surprised to hear a Ugandan speak of the scientific election campaigns in the Uganda of today. It sounded like somebody who has never been in Uganda was speaking.

Advert: Best Solutions Uganda

Best Solutions Uganda

However, it would have sounded more inappropriate and totally unwise if the EC boss had announced that the campaigns and elections are to be dealt with normally during such a period when the country is still at war with the Covid-19 Pandemic. In my ears, again, it sounds stubborn if anyone says we should go on with campaigns and elections normally in such an environment because it is the period suggested by the Constitution.

I remember my Deputy Principal at Kabulasoke PTC, Ms. Nangira Catherine S. saying, "Always use common sense and apply it in all corners of life...". What is more important? Life, campaigns, elections or the law? What came for the other? Campaigns came to enhance elections yet elections came to enhance leadership, and leadership came to enhance the law which was put to enhance life. The law came because there was life but life did not come for the law. In other words, life is the master of all. We cannot use the law to destroy life and thus we cannot conduct public rally campaigns in such dangerous days to fulfill the law.

Advert: Best Solutions Uganda

https://bestsolutionsuganda.business.site

We must accept as a country that we are in war with the pandemic and let us concentrate to that until we get victory. We are not other countries and we must not risk lives because other countries did.

Campaigning through television and radios is not a system to help us elect leaders of our choice - how can I choose somebody I don't know to lead me? This system cannot help us to understand our candidates, more especially those appearing on the ballot paper for the first time; yet among them might be the right candidates to go with this time. Besides, how many Ugandans have television sets in their homes? And even for those having television sets, how many people can sit to watch campaigns on television when there are other programs that have always caught their attention?

In all corners of common sense, I don't see it right to take  our attention away from the ongoing struggle and start thinking about campaigns and elections in such a period.

The Parliament should by their constitutional powers and authority help our National Constitution to recognize such periods of scourge on every matter including elections.

That is my submission.

KEY POINTS FROM PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS TO THE NATION OF 25TH MARCH, 2020 ON PREVENTION OF COVID -19 WHICH IS CAUSED BY CORONA VIRUS

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during his address to the nation at State House of Uganda

Today on Wednesday 25th March, 2020 evening the President of Uganda His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has addressed the nation on the new strategies to prevent the spread of Corona Virus which causes Covid -19, the world most threatening pandemic. This followed a declaration from the Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng that Uganda had confirmed more five victims of the disease where one was an eight months old baby.

The president in his address requested Uhandans to honestly abide by his advice and all information that is released from the Ministry of Health from time to time.

Suspension was put to some businesses and services so as to encourage people to stay in their homes and avoid crowds of any kind as part of prevention of the spread of the virus.

We have listed below the basic points from his communication.

1) Public Transport was suspended for two full weeks. This involves taxis, buses, trains, passenger planes, boda bodas among others. Private were let to move but not carry more than three people including the driver. Vehicles carrying goods were also let to move but not carrying more than two people to assist the driver where such assistance is necessary. Boda boda riders were allowed to carry only goods especially food but not humans (customers / travellers).

2) Only essential offices were allowed to keep operating, even then with essential staff only.

3) Registration of delivery services for boda boder was to be done immediately, for delivery of goods and services to doorsteps

4) Markets had to remain open only to sell food and supermarket traffic had to be regulated.

5) Centralization of vehicles at the districts for health officers to follow up medical care for the public was to start immediately.

The President read for the Ugandans a Bible verse, Isaiah 26:20, which says "Stay indoors, stay indoors..." to support his decision to ask all Ugandans to stay in their homes and to avoid crowds.
