Uganda Police Force has announced Emmanuel Kabanda who set himself ablaze dead after being denied access to his motorcycle that was impounded at Kireka police station.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala deputy police spokesperson, on Sunday at around 8:30pm, Kabanda's motorcycle was impounded at the police station over violating the presidential directives on COVID-19. Suddenly, Kabanda passed on Thursday night.
“Emmanuel Kabanda, who allegedly attempted to commit suicide, was last night pronounced dead at Kiruddu Hospital where he was receiving treatment. The deceased’s body is currently conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for a postmortem, ” Owoyesigyire says in a statement.

However, six police officers all attached to Kireka Police station have since been arrested for requesting for a bride from the deceased inorder to release his motorcycle.
“Inquiries kick started to ascertain the exact cause of the attempted suicide and six officers attached to Kireka were arrested by Professional Standards Unit to aid into the investigations of the then alleged suicide,” Owoyesigyire said.
Among these include, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mulinde, Corporal Francis Twinomujuni, Corporal Joan Nakisige, Constable Norman Higenyi, Detective Constable Martha Logose and Constable Robert Bintamye.
Currently, these are being detained as further investigations are conducted. However, other motorists have been previously seen committing suicide over the same issue from July.
